Water Chestnut Delight

500 g water chestnuts (washed & peeled, cut into 6mm thick slices)
375 g sugar
250 g water chestnut powder
1 liter water
500ml evaporated milk
2 tbsps vegetable shortening
oil for frying

1- Put water chestnuts in a pot of water and bring to boil.
2- Add sugar and cook till sugar dissolves. Allow to simmer over very low heat.
3- Mix water chestnut powder with evaporated milk. Sift and add vegetable shortening.
4- Stir this mixture into simmering contents in the pot. Remove from heat.
5- Pour into a greased baking tray. Steam for 1 hour.
6- Cut into slices when cool.
7- Heat a little oil in pan and pan-fry slices till slightly brown on both sides. Serve hot.

  1. As stated by Stanford Medical, It is indeed the SINGLE reason this country's women live 10 years longer and weigh an average of 42 pounds lighter than we do.

    (And by the way, it has NOTHING to do with genetics or some secret diet and really, EVERYTHING around "HOW" they are eating.)
